Pensacola Bay Bridge Hydroacoustic Consultation & Monitoring
48 North Solutions, Inc. is proud to support the Skanska/Parsons-Brinkerhoff Design-Build Team for the replacement of the new Pensacola Bay Bridge in Pensacola, Florida. 48 North is supporting the design and construction of the new three-mile long bridge with hydroacoustic consultation and monitoring services to mitigate underwater noise from pile-driving activities. Our team conducted predictive acoustic modeling of 4 variations of piles which could be used during construction to estimate what potential impacts pile-driving operations could have on the Gulf sturgeon, an Endangered Species Act listed species.
48 NORTH staff assisted the project team with permitting consultations and modeling of acoustical behavioral threshold distances for sensitive species to insure adherence with pertinent regulatory permit requirements. Our staff provided real-time on site monitoring of pile driving activities to document that underwater noise levels remained below permissible limits.
48 NORTH monitored the hydroacoustics resulting from production pile driving for permitted threshold distances for Gulf sturgeon. We used real time hydroacoustic data to assist in fine tuning effectiveness of bubble curtains during pile driving activities.
Hydroacoustic monitoring from a handheld tablet can be done from the pile driving barge itself, or from a remote location, like the boat pictured below.
